Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

Published on 2 October 2025 at 10:33

Ok, y’all, are you ready for some vulnerability and accountability? We’re in October, and I haven’t completed any of the goals I wrote down at the beginning of the year… or at least that’s what I tell myself.

Here’s the truth: reflecting on 2025 so far, I realize I’ve actually grown in ways I didn’t prioritize or even consider important when I wrote those goals. And that’s the tricky thing—we often lie to ourselves like in the game “Liar, liar, pants on fire”.

We say we didn’t meet our goals, but when we really look, we did—just not in the way we expected.

For example, my “highlight goals” were losing weight and saving money. I didn’t hit my goal weight, but I eat out less, which is healthier. I didn’t hit my exact savings number, but I spend less and shop less, which still improves my finances.

So yes, technically, I didn’t meet the goals “on paper,” but in reality, I’ve made meaningful progress.

The lesson? Sometimes we’re our own biggest liars.

We discount growth that doesn’t fit neatly into a checkbox.

But growth is growth, and honoring it matters—pants on fire or not.
